Why don't you support them in performing both? Words are actions, in many cases. Placing out an overview of belief like this is not easy. I'd hope they're also doing stuff things to make the lives of their black workers better but that does not mean I want to treat this as moot. Placing out a public statement is really a great step forward for initiatives like that, because if EA isn't doing enough then it is really easy for people internally to say"Look, our activities are materially different from our stated principles and we ought to do something about that." In the end of the day if you refuse to acknowledge when a company makes a small step you appreciate then how will they ever learn how to generate a large step you love? You are treating this just like a political discussion in which making this small concession means you won't have the bargaining power to earn a bigger one later on. But I really don't think that is how this works: EA is testing the waters and studying from their clients whether this is the kind of thing they support or not. Is the lesson you want them to learn from this that human decency is not worth appealing to because it doesn't really affect purchasing decisions?

I believe based on your remark that we are going to essentially disagree on idealism vs. realism, and that is fine. I find myself generally in the middle of realism and idealism since I understand the way the world works but I still want a better world; you don't have to select one or the other. I don't understand why we have to give corporations a pass just because they aren't individuals (that Citizens United would disagree with but that is another discussion.) We shouldn't just accept the best we're given by a business, we ought to anticipate the best we want from them. Companies are made of people calling the shots and you will find an infinite amount of cases of organizations that both make enormous profits and stand up for good causes. Patagonia is a great example. They do not have to make sustainable goods and offer repair and reuse apps to go against fast trend, but they do and they make a ton of money anyways.

"Everybody needs to do the ideal thing" is just naive if you do nothing about it. This instance does not include the numerous gray topics where opinions have a place; this is actually a discussion of whether you need black people to have rights or not. It is not courageous of a business to say that black people deserve rights just because they will lose white supremacist clients. It really IS very easy for a company to set out a statement of opinion similar to this, as we have seen from each of the businesses doing this at this time like Amazon and the NFL. I genuinely do not understand how it's hard for a multi-million dollar business to give up a tiny fraction of their profits for the greater good. If people who do not like Black Lives Matter make up a Vast Majority of a Organization's customerbase, then perhaps they shouldn't have those profits (not asserting EA's playerbase from BLM, this is a hyperbolized illustration )
