Relationship and Encounter

Being there for one another meaningfully not just being physically present without encounter

Gabriel Marcel's relation of notion of being and having to the ideals of presence, encounter, inter-subjectivity (I THOU) and the broken world

For Gabriel Marcel it is clear that his aim was to open the door for the people to focus on "being" rather than "having" meaning, our existence is more than having, the possession of things in the ordinary sense. This for him is points out to the fullest form of existence which one can attain through encounter and inter-subjectivity.

So far I have noted that, Marcel's thoughts emphasizes on the fully existence in a human person as that which demands presence, being there for each other. He Sees encounter as a fundamental aspect of human existence meaning, meeting someone in a reciprocal, intersubjective way.

Inter-subjectivity in this sense involves recognizing the shared exchange of relationship between the subjects. For example in a Salesian community like the post Novitiate, one must encounter the Salesian spirituality and live it rather than just having it. This can be achieved if there's ample time for the members of the community to welcome everyone and live as brothers. Fomators and formees must live in harmony with mutual respect. Each member of the community must live to the fullest and mingle freely with others.

Therefore, there must be no need of pretending in but to bring out what is inside me to the others otherwise one can end up living a life without purpose, Salesian life without the zeal to do what the founder wished should be done

Hence Gabriel Marcel'se notion basically emphasizes the importance of relationships and encourages the individuals to be fully engaged in the current moment, without distraction. To live with others and make them be part of me.
